Global Occurrence of Zoonotic Tuberculosis: Ongoing Efforts…

I came to South Africa in order to conduct research on tuberculosis in humans.  I hope that our efforts can lead to better treatments, personalized medicine, or even a vaccine!  In yesterday’s post at “Science Policy for All,” Ashely Parker talks about the interesting cross-over between tuberculosis in domesticated animals and tuberculosis in the human population.  M. bovis is the species from the Mycobacterium genus that was used to create the BGC vaccine that confers some resistance to M. tuberculosis in at-risk children.
